One day, Mom stroked my hair and said softly, "Eliza, a little flower fairy lives inside every apricot pit. If you place it in a tiny box and give it a drop of morning dew each day, after a month, she will be born." My eyes grew wide with wonder. I ran all over the orchard and finally found the biggest, plumpest apricot under a tree. In the sunlight, it glowed like a piece of amber.

After eating the sweet fruit, I placed the precious apricot pit in a glass jewelry box lined with soft cotton. Every day before sunrise, I would tiptoe into the garden. I used the largest rose petal to catch the most sparkling dewdrop from the tip of a leaf. Then, I would carefully drip the water onto the pit and whisper, "Grow quickly, my little flower fairy."

A month passed, and my heart was pounding. Using a small nutcracker, I gently and slowly squeezed the pit. Click! It split in two. Wow! A tiny fairy, no bigger than my hand, was lying inside. She rubbed her sleepy eyes, wearing a little dress woven from a soft green grapevine leaf. She was so small and so beautiful, like a flower bud ready to bloom.

"Hello there!" I whispered, so excited I could barely stand still. The little fairy looked at me and shyly whispered back, "Hello." Her voice sounded like wind chimes. I decided to name her Violet, because her eyes were the purest shade of purple. I found a empty nutshell to make her a brand new cradle.

I gently placed Violet into the nutshell cradle, which I had filled with soft fluff from dandelions. It was as soft as a cloud. Violet lay down and stretched comfortably. I put her cradle on my nightstand so I could see her all the time. At night, moonlight streamed through the window, shining on her tiny face. It all felt like a dream.

"Violet, are you hungry?" I asked. She nodded. I ran to the garden and picked fresh rose petals. I shaped them into a tiny bowl and filled it with sweet nectar, then sprinkled a few grains of golden pollen on top. Violet sat at a tiny leaf table and ate every last bite. A little bit of pollen was stuck to the corner of her mouth, which was incredibly cute.

I made Violet a beautiful gown from violet and rose petals, and a playful skirt from daffodil petals. After she put on her new dress, she twirled on my fingertip. "Thank you, Eliza!" she said happily. "It's the most beautiful dress I've ever seen, prettier than a rainbow!" Seeing her so happy made my heart feel full of honey.

Pretty clothes weren't enough. I found tiny lily of the valley flowers and strung them into a necklace for her. I used little lavender and lilac buds to make her earrings and a bracelet. Wearing her new jewelry, Violet sparkled in the sun, brighter than any gem. She touched the necklace, her eyes shining like stars.

As the days went by, Violet grew taller and more beautiful.Every night, I would told her stories, and she would listen quietly. One evening, I whispered to her, "You know, Violet? I used to always play by myself, and I felt very lonely. But now that I have you, I'm happy every single day." Violet flew to my cheek, touched it with her tiny hand, and said, "I’m glad we found each other."

That afternoon, while Violet and I were playing in my room, Dad pushed the door open. "Eliza, who are you talking to?" he asked curiously. I quickly tried to hide Violet, but it was too late. Dad saw the tiny figure in the air. Violet's eyes grew wide with fear. She fainted softly like a tired petal.

"Violet! Violet!" I called out in a panic, but she didn't move. I quickly carried her back to her nutshell cradle and covered her with fluff from dandelions. She was very quiet and still, like she needed deep rest. Dad stood beside me, not knowing what to do.

I stayed by Violet's cradle all night without sleeping. I fed her nectar and wrapped her in a warm cloth, talking to her endlessly, hoping she would wake up. But she didn't respond at all; she just lay there silently. The night grew deeper, and my eyelids grew heavier. Finally, I couldn't stay awake any longer and fell asleep.

The next morning, the first ray of sunlight lit up my room. I woke with a start and immediately looked for Violet. But the cradle was empty. Violet was no longer there, as if she had quietly left. I searched the entire room—under the bed, behind the bookshelf, inside the toy box. Her tiny figure was nowhere to be found. She had vanished like the air.

I sank to the floor, tears streaming down my face. Just then, I noticed something in the nutshell cradle. Where Violet had been lying, there was now a single, perfect violet flower. A fresh dewdrop rested on its petals, and it gave off a soft, sweet scent. Its color was the exact same purple as Violet's eyes.

I picked up the violet and held it close to my heart. Was Violet truly gone? Or had she become this flower to stay with me in a different way? Maybe she had just returned to nature, where she belonged. The month I spent with Violet was like a short and beautiful dream. Now, the dream was over, but its sweetness would stay in my heart forever.
