A donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster, all grew old and weary. Their owners no longer needed them, so they met in a moonlit forest clearing and shared their worries.

“I’ve heard of Bremen,” said the Donkey. “They have musicians there. Perhaps we can join them!” The others nodded, their eyes sparkling with a new hope.

At sunrise, they set off together. Though old, they walked side by side along a winding forest path, each step carrying courage and a sense of adventure towards Bremen.

As night fell, they saw a cozy cottage glowing with warm light through the trees. From inside came laughter, music, and the smell of delicious food. But something seemed odd about it.

They crept close and peered through a window. Inside, four scruffy robbers were feasting and counting piles of gold coins! The animals exchanged worried glances.

The Donkey whispered, “We can scare them away!” The animals quickly agreed and stacked themselves up: the Donkey on the bottom, the Dog on his back, the Cat on the Dog, and the Rooster perched right on top.

Together, they made the most dreadful noise: the Donkey brayed, the Dog barked, the Cat hissed, and the Rooster crowed with all its might. The shocking sound shook the cottage walls!

The robbers, convinced a terrifying monster was inside, screamed and ran out the door. They tumbled into the dark forest, tripping over each other in sheer fright.

The animals stepped inside their new home. Food and warmth awaited them. They feasted joyfully, sharing bread and cheese by the flickering candlelight, finally safe.

After their meal, they curled up by the crackling fire, feeling safe and warm for the first time in years. The night was quiet, and bright stars shone outside their new home.

Suddenly, one of the robbers, brave but foolish, crept back to see if the “monster” was truly gone. He peeked through the window and stepped inside cautiously.

The Cat, ever watchful, hissed sharply, and the Dog barked fiercely! The robber jumped in fright, stumbled, and ran screaming into the forest again, faster than before.

From that night onward, the animals lived happily in the cottage. No one dared disturb them again. They discovered they loved making music together, and the house rang with harmony.

Though their dream had been Bremen, they realized true happiness could be found wherever they were brave and clever together. The forest cottage became their forever home.
