The sun rose over a peaceful village surrounded by rolling hills. Sheep grazed lazily on the green slopes, and birds sang among the trees. A small shepherd boy sat on a rock, watching over his flock, feeling bored and restless.

The boy yawned and fidgeted. “I wish something exciting would happen,” he thought. A sly grin spread across his face as an idea sparked—he could play a trick on the villagers.

The boy shouted, “Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is coming!” Villagers ran up the hill with sticks and pitchforks, panic in their eyes. But when they arrived, no wolf was there. The boy laughed at their worried faces.

The villagers scolded the boy. “Do not cry wolf unless there is danger!” they warned. The boy shrugged, secretly amused by their panic. The sheep grazed on, unaware of the trick.

Days passed, and the boy grew restless again. The village was calm, the sheep safe. His mind wandered, and the mischievous thought returned: “Perhaps I can try it again—just for fun.”

“Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is attacking the flock!” The boy cried. Once again, villagers rushed to help, hearts pounding. But again, there was no wolf. They shook their heads in exasperation, angry and disappointed.

One afternoon, a real wolf crept through the tall grass, eyes gleaming and teeth bared. The boy’s heart pounded. “Wolf! Wolf! Help! The wolf is really here!” he shouted, panic rising.

This time, the villagers did not come. They had been fooled too many times. The boy ran and called, but only the wind and the wolf’s low growls answered him. His heart sank as he realized the danger of dishonesty.

The wolf fled when some distant hunters scared it away, but the boy’s flock had lost several sheep. He sat among the remaining animals, ashamed and regretful, understanding the heavy cost of lying.

From that day on, the boy never cried wolf again. He tended his flock with care and honesty, and the villagers learned to trust him once more. The lesson was clear: lies may seem fun, but they can bring real danger.
