1.A Land in Turmoil
Long ago, the land of Han was troubled. Unfair leaders caused sadness, and a group called the Yellow Turbans grew strong in many places. People were unhappy and worried.
The Emperor Ling worried greatly about his people. In desperation, he sent out a message across the whole land, asking brave people to come and help restore peace.
In Zhuo county, a kind man named Liu Bei, who made mats and sandals for a living, read the Emperor's message. He sighed, wishing he could help the suffering people.
A strong, lively butcher named Zhang Fei, with a booming voice and a tiger-like beard, saw Liu Bei sigh. 'Why the long face?' he boomed. 'Don't you want to help our land?'
Just then, a tall and impressive warrior named Guan Yu stepped forward. He had left his home after a disagreement and also wished to serve the troubled state.
The three men, Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu, felt an instant connection. They realized they all shared the same big dream: to protect innocent people and bring peace to the land.
Behind Zhang Fei's farm, in a beautiful peach garden, they lit incense and bowed three times. They were about to make a sacred promise to each other.
'We may not be born on the same day,' they declared together, 'but we will stand together always, like true brothers!' This was the famous Peach Garden Brotherhood.
The three brothers gathered brave volunteers and even received help from kind merchants. With their weapons ready, they marched under the leadership of Colonel Zou Jing.
In their very first clash against the Yellow Turban group, Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei showed incredible bravery. They fought with one heart and won a big victory!
For their efforts in helping to calm the rebellion, Liu Bei was appointed captain of Anxi county. It was a small reward, but he took his duties seriously.
One day, an Imperial Inspector arrived to check on the county. He was very proud and only cared about himself, demanding unfair things from Liu Bei.
Liu Bei, always fair and honest, refused the Inspector's selfish demands. The Inspector grew very angry, threatening to take away Liu Bei's position as captain.
When the Inspector wouldn't even listen to reason, Zhang Fei's fiery temper exploded! He gave the unfair Inspector a stern, physical lesson he wouldn't forget.
To prevent more trouble, Liu Bei quickly stopped Zhang Fei. He gave up his captain's job, but his noble dream of helping the Han dynasty remained strong and true.
Meanwhile, far away in the grand capital city, new problems were brewing. Emperor Ling became very ill and sadly passed away, leaving the throne empty.
His young son, Liu Bian, became the new Emperor. But true power was split between his uncle, General He Jin, and a group of cunning palace officials called the Ten Eunuchs.
General He Jin wanted to stop the ambitious Eunuchs, but he wasn't sure of the best way. His wise advisors, Cao Cao and Chen Lin, urged him to act quickly and decisively.
Another advisor, Yuan Shao, suggested calling powerful military leaders from outside the capital to help. Cao Cao worried, saying it was a very risky idea, like 'inviting wolves'.
The cunning Eunuchs discovered He Jin's plans. They tricked General He Jin into the palace and, sadly, he was removed from power in a tricky and unfair way.
When Yuan Shao and Cao Cao heard what happened, they were furious! They stormed the palace and removed all the Eunuchs from their positions, ending their unfair rule.
In all the confusion and chaos, the young Emperor Liu Bian and his little brother, Prince Liu Xie, had to run away from the palace as things grew wild.
While the dynasty struggled, a powerful and imposing general named Dong Zhuo began his march from the west. His army cast a long, dark shadow over the capital city.
Dong Zhuo's arrival marked the beginning of a great new adventure, filled with many challenges and big changes for the land of Han and all its people.
